George J. Vergis, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Vergis has served as president and chief executive officer since May 2006, and as a director since February 2006. He joined the company as vice president, business and commercial development in July 2001, and served most recently as president and chief operating officer. From 1996 to 2001, Dr. Vergis served as vice president, new product development and commercialization at Knoll Pharmaceutical Company, a division of BASF Pharma, responsible for the commercial planning, product development, and marketing for the cardiovascular, immunology, and critical care franchises. Prior to BASF, Dr. Vergis held a variety of clinical and medical marketing positions at Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories and Warner Lambert Parke Davis. Dr. Vergis serves as a director of Woods Services, a not-for-profit organization. Dr. Vergis received his B.A. in biology and history from Princeton University, his Ph.D. in physiology from the Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.

 

A. Brian Davis
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Davis has served as senior vice president and chief financial officer since January 2005. He joined the Company in 1994 as controller. Prior to joining Neose, Mr. Davis served as corporate controller of Micro HealthSystems, Inc. from 1991 to 1994. Mr. Davis received his B.S. in accounting from Trenton State College and his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

 

Shawn DeFrees, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, Research and Development

Dr. DeFrees has served as senior vice president, research and development since February 2008. He joined Neose in 1999 as senior director, research and development. Prior to joining Neose, he was at Cytel Corporation from 1991 until 1999 in several roles, including director of discovery chemistry. From 1988 to 1991, he was a staff scientist in the cardiovascular area at Schering-Plough Corporation. Dr. DeFrees received his B.S. in biochemistry from Albright College, and his Ph.D. in synthetic medicinal chemistry from Purdue University. He completed his post-doctoral training in the total synthesis of complex natural products at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

Valerie M. Mulligan
Senior Vice President, Quality and Regulatory Affairs

Ms. Mulligan has served as senior vice president, quality and regulatory affairs, since March 2007. She joined the Company in 1996 as manager, quality assurance, and has held positions of increasing responsibility. Prior to joining Neose, she was at Ethicon, Inc. (a Johnson & Johnson Company) from 1992 to 1996, serving most recently as manager, corporate quality assurance engineering. From 1983 to 1992, Ms. Mulligan held positions at McNeil Specialty Products Company (a Johnson & Johnson Company) and Squibb-Linson (a Bristol-Myers-Squibb Company). She received her B.Sc. in chemistry, as well as a post-graduate diploma in education, from University College in Dublin.

 

Bruce A. Wallin, M.D.
Senior Vice President, Clinical Development and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Wallin has served as senior vice president, clinical development and chief medical officer since March 2007. He joined the company in August 2006 as vice president, clinical development and chief medical officer. From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Wallin served as vice president, clinical research and development at Adolor Corporation, where he was responsible for the clinical development of multiple pain management candidates. Prior to joining Adolor, he was at Abbott Laboratories for nine years and at SmithKline Beecham for 11 years, in similar roles. Dr. Wallin received his bachelor of arts degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and his M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School.

 

 

Kathryn J. Gregory
Vice President, Business Development
and Licensing

Ms. Gregory has served as vice president, business development and licensing, since February 2006. She joined Neose in 1999 as director, business development. Prior to joining Neose, Ms. Gregory served as director, business development, at Cytel Corporation from 1998 to 1999. From 1988 to 1998, she held positions of increasing responsibility at GensiaSicor Pharmaceuticals (formerly Kendall McGaw Pharmaceuticals), serving most recently as associate director of business development. Ms. Gregory received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and her M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.
